Mr. M. Ayyappan, Chairman
Mr. M Ayyappan is Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL) a Mini Ratna Central Public Sector Undertaking.  He has the distinction of being amongst the youngest - at the age of 47, to assume charge at the helm of a Central Public Sector enterprise in 2003. He is an Engineering graduate from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram and an MBA from the Cochin University of Science and Technology.   Mr. Ayyappan is a Member of the Board of Studies, Future Studies, and Quality Advisory Committee of the University of Kerala; and a Visiting Faculty Member for the full time MBA course of the University of Kerala.   He is also actively involved in the Management movement in the State. He was the President of the Trivandrum Management Association (TMA) an Affiliate of the All India Management Association for two consecutive years – 2004-05 and 2004-06. 
 
Mr. Suresh Kumar K.K., Director

Mr. Suresh Kumar K.K. is Director of Marketing at Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL), a Mini Ratna Central Public Sector Undertaking.  He is a B. Tech by profession.  Mr. Suresh Kumar possesses nearly three decades of experience in developing brands, designing and implementing marketing and communication strategies.  He had also proved his competence in successfully setting up distribution networks both in domestic and international markets alikeMr. Suresh Kumar has obtained certifications in Management Training from MIM  (Malaysian Institute of Management) Malaysia; Quality Systems and System monitoring Training from SP Institute, Singapore; and SPC/SQC for ISO-9000 at IIQM, Jaipur.  He holds membership in Institutions and Professional development bodies such as Institute of Directors (IOD), Trivandrum Management Association (TMA) and the Institute of Engineers of India.

 
Mr. Biju Mohandas, Director
Mr. Biju Mohandas is the India Business Manager at Acumen Fund, a venture philanthropy fund that invests in social enterprises.  As Business Manager, Mr. Mohandas assists the country director in management across portfolios, as well as manages the compliances and financial responsibilities of the India office.  Prior to Acumen Fund, he served for five years as an officer in the Indian Army's Medical and Dental Corps. This included tenures in rural and tribal locations in Northeastern India and Nepal. His responsibilities included operational management, healthcare administration and clinical care during counter insurgency operations.  Mr. Mohandas completed his Post Graduate Program in Management with a dual major in analytical finance and strategic marketing from the Indian School of Business.
 
Mr. Varun Sahni, Director

Mr. Varun Sahni is the India Director at Acumen Fund, a venture philanthropy fund that invests in social enterprises.  Mr. Sahni has focused on building, managing and investing in businesses for low income communities for the past ten years. Prior to joining Acumen Fund, he worked with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations focusing on enterprise creation across India.  He has also been involved as an angel investor in a number of companies in the Hospitality Services, Food and Beverage sectors across India.  He received an MA from Columbia University in Political Economy.

 
Mr. Sadeesh Raghavan, Director

Mr. Sadeesh Raghavan is Managing Partner of Accenture’s India Domestic Business, as well as Accenture’s Managing Partner of North Asia and South Asia Products Practice.  He has over 24 years of experience in the consulting industry, having worked in many countries across Asia Pacific and the USA.  He has also worked closely with government agencies and the local manufacturing industry associations.  He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on Asia Pacific.  Mr. Raghavan obtained his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.  He has an MBA in Finance and MIS from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).

 
Dr. M.D. Nair, Director

Dr.M.D. Nair, has a Ph.D. Degree from university of Illinois, USA. He has worked extensively on new drug development, patents, documentation, Information Systems and Planning, control of production, marketing and Clinical Trials. Dr. Nair was instrumental in setting up largest antibiotic complexes in India for SPIC. Besides Authoring over 80 publications in various national and international journals, he is the holder of several patents on new therapeutic agents and has co-authored three books. He has been consultant to WHO for setting up pharmaceuticals projects in Middle East and on traditional machines in New Delhi, Bangkok and Jakarta. He has been an advisor to government and private organisations on science and Technology and Director of the board of many pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Nair has developed conceptual and novel approaches for the Indian Industry to become a global player in R&D, Technology Development, production and marketing of healthcare products and services.

Management Team

Anant Kumar, Chief Executive Officer
Anant Kumar launched the first LifeSpring Hospital in December 2005 as a pilot within Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT).  Given the success of the pilot model of low cost, high quality hospitals, LifeSpring Hospitals launched as a separate private company with equity participation from Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL) and Acumen Fund in February 2008.  Prior to heading LifeSpring, Mr. Kumar was business head of Social Franchising in HLFPPT.  As part of this role, he set up the organization’s central franchising office at Hyderabad – the nerve centre for managing the entire operation.  Previously, he served as Programme Manager of the Andhra Pradesh Social Marketing Programme and Regional Manager of HLL.  Mr. Kumar has a post-graduate diploma in Rural Management (equivalent to an MBA) from the Institute of Rural Management and a post-graduate diploma in Health Care and Hospital Management from Symbiosis Institute.  He received his BA from Delhi University.  An avid quizzer, Mr. Kumar lives in Hyderabad with his wife and son.
 
George Cheriyan, Head IT and HR

George Cheriyan has over fourteen years of experience in IT setup and management, operations, project management, and software development across a range of industries including healthcare, hospitality, construction, and retail.  As Head IT at LifeSpring, Mr. Cheriyan’s role is in building information technology as the backbone of the organization.  In this capacity, he is bringing a holistic IT model, which will link up all hospitals under one technology. 

Through his leadership as Head HR, he strives to create a proactive department that strategically recruits, motivates, and retains talent at all levels of the LifeSpring organization.  He received his B.Com from Madras University and his Diploma in Client Server Technology from LCCI, London.

 
V. Giridhar, Head Projects
V. Giridhar has over two decades of management and accounting experience.  He has particular expertise in accounting systems development, fiscal management, and financial reporting.  As Head of Projects, Mr. Giridhar’s role is to scale up LifeSpring Hospital by leading a team that identifies potential hospital sites, conducts due diligence work, and outfits each hospital to meet LifeSpring quality standards.  Through his leadership in Projects, Mr. Giridhar will help LifeSpring scale from one hospital to thirty by 2010, thus laying down the foundations to grow LifeSpring to 200 hospitals in five to seven years.  Mr. Giridhar was one of LifeSpring’s first employees.  He received his Bachelor of Commerce at Andhra University, his MBA in Finance from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, and his Masters in Commerce and Management Accounting from Osmania University.  He is fluent in Telugu, Hindi, and English.
 
T. Subba Rao, Manager Accounts

T. Subba Rao has over ten years of experience in the fields of Accounts, Finance, Budgeting, Taxation functions, and Statutory / Internal audits.  He joined the Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT) and stayed on when LifeSpring became its own private limited company in 2008.  In his role as Manager Accounts, Mr. Subba Rao helps LifeSpring in its day-to-day financial transactions, focused primarily on finance, billing, and procurement.  Mr. Subba Rao has extensive experience in accounting in a range of industries, including health care, infrastructure, and consulting.  He received his B.Com from Nagarjuna University and his I.C.W.A. from Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India, where he graduated in commerce.

 
Tricia Morente, Marketing / Acumen Fund Fellow

Tricia Morente comes to LifeSpring by way of Acumen Fund’s Fellowship Program.  At LifeSpring, Ms. Morente focuses on Marketing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).  She has seven years of experience – half of which was spent in the private sector as a business strategy consultant and half of which was focused on international economic development.  Her work experience ranges from North America to Australia, Rwanda, Philippines, Thailand, and India.  Ms. Morente received her BA from Harvard University, her MA in International Affairs from SIPA (Columbia University), and her MBA from Columbia Business School.  In her free time, she is a trapeze artist and harpist.

 
B. Prabhu Chakravarthy, Manager Marketing

B. Prabhu Chakravarthy has over seven years of experience in strategic planning, corporate sales and marketing, business development, and key accounts management.  Mr. Chakravarthy brings many years of experience in healthcare marketing, having worked at Rainbow Children’s Hospitals, Global Hospitals and Kamineni Hospital prior to LifeSpring.  He received his MBA in Marketing from Kakatiya University in Warangal, and his B.Sc. in Electronics from Arts & Science College in Warangal.  Mr. Chakravarthy joined LifeSpring in 2008, drawn to LifeSpring’s social mission of providing high quality care to lower-income segments of the Indian population.

 
Jaikrishnan A.R., Company Secretary

Jaikrishnan is a Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, New Delhi.  He also holds MBA from the University of Kerala. He possesses over 8 years’ experience as Company Secretary in employment. Prior to joining Hindustan Latex Ltd. as Assistant Company Secretary, he was employed as Company Secretary of M/s. AVT McCormick Ingredients (P) Ltd., Kochi. While working as ACS of HLL, he officiates as the Company Secretary of LifeSpring Hospitals.

Besides Corporate & Securities laws, his areas of interest include Fiscal legislations, Foreign Trade Policy & Procedures and Policies & Procedures relating to Foreign Direct Investment/ Overseas Direct Investment. Jaikrishnan’s pursuits include business quiz; reading books on self-help and soft-religion genre; and occasional parasailing. He also holds Membership in All India Management Association, New Delhi.
