News and Press
Something remarkable is happening. Winds of change sweeping over Indian maternal health. Until very recently, pregnant women wishing to give birth in a hospital had to choose between two polar ends of a spectrum: (1) lower-priced government or trust hospital; or (2) higher-quality private hospital. Higher quality has been equated with higher price, leaving low-income women to either have birth at home, at a lower-quality hospital, or at a private hospital – at the expense of selling assets or borrowing money to pay for healthcare services. This black-and-white spectrum has been shattered with the emergence of LifeSpring, a chain of high-quality and low-cost maternity hospitals, targeting low-income women in India. |
